Sound is Not Played

Troubleshooting guide for when sounds, TTS, or sound alerts are not playing in GEMTOK

If your sounds, TTS (Text-to-Speech), or sound alerts are not playing in GEMTOK, there are several common causes. Check the list below.

1. Browser Tab is Muted

This is the most common cause. Browsers allow muting individual tabs.

Symptoms: No sound at all from GEMTOK, but other apps have sound.

How to fix:

Look at the browser tab where GEMTOK is open. Check if there is a muted speaker icon 🔇 on the tab.

Right-click the tab and select Unmute tab / Unmute site.

On Windows, also check the volume mixer: Right-click speaker icon in taskbar > Open Volume Mixer > Make sure your browser is not muted or set to 0%.

2. Browser Autoplay Policy Blocked Sound

Modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) block autoplay with sound until the user interacts with the page.

Symptoms: Sound doesn't play automatically when a gift/comment triggers it, but plays when you click the test button.

How to fix:

Click anywhere inside the GEMTOK page after loading. This gives the browser permission to play audio.

For Chrome/Edge: Click the lock icon 🔒 in the address bar > Site settings > Set Sound to Allow.

Reload the page and interact with it again.

GEMTOK requires user interaction before playing sounds due to browser security policy. Always click or interact with the page after opening it.

3. System or Device Volume is Muted / Low

Symptoms: No sound from any app, not just GEMTOK.

How to fix:

Check your system volume - make sure it's not muted and volume is up.

Check if the correct output device is selected (Speakers vs Headphones vs Bluetooth).

On Windows: Settings > System > Sound > Check Output device.

On Phone: Check media volume, not just ringtone volume. Press volume up button while GEMTOK is open.

4. Wrong Audio Output Device Selected

If you use OBS, virtual audio cables, or multiple audio devices, sound might be playing to the wrong device.

Symptoms: Sound meter moves but you hear nothing.

How to fix:

In GEMTOK Stream Studio, check Settings > Audio Output and make sure the correct device is selected.

In Windows Sound Settings, set your main speakers/headphones as Default Device.

If using OBS, make sure Monitor and Output is set correctly for Browser Source audio.

5. Sound File Not Set or Volume is 0

Symptoms: Some triggers have no sound, others work fine.

How to fix:

Go to Stream Studio > Triggers / Sound Alert and check if a sound file is assigned to the trigger.

Check the volume slider for that specific sound - make sure it's not 0%.

Click Test / Preview button to test the sound directly.

If using custom uploaded files, try re-uploading the file. Supported format only MP3.

6. Browser Cache or Extension Conflict

Ad blockers, audio extensions, or corrupted cache can block sounds.

How to fix:

Try opening GEMTOK in Incognito / Private Window (Ctrl+Shift+N). If sound works there, an extension is causing it.

Disable ad-blocker or audio-related extensions for gemtok.live.

Clear browser cache: Ctrl+Shift+Delete > Clear cached images and files.

Try a different browser (Chrome recommended).

7. PWA / Installed App Has No Sound Permission

If you installed GEMTOK as PWA or Windows app, OS permissions might block audio.

How to fix:

On Windows: Settings > Privacy & Security > App permissions > Check if browser/app has media permission.

On Android: Long press GEMTOK icon > App Info > Permissions > Allow media/audio.

On iOS: Settings > Safari > Check audio settings, or reinstall PWA.

8. OBS Studio - Sound Not Captured

If you use GEMTOK Browser Source in OBS and viewers can't hear sound, but you can.

How to fix:

In OBS, right-click GEMTOK Browser Source > Properties > Check Control audio via OBS.

In OBS Audio Mixer, make sure Browser Source is not muted and volume is up.

Go to OBS > Edit > Advanced Audio Properties > Set Browser Source Audio Monitoring to Monitor and Output.

If using separate audio track for stream, make sure Browser Source is assigned to the correct track.

Quick Checklist

Still Not Working?

If none of the above fixes work:

Take a screenshot of your trigger settings and volume settings

Note your browser name and version (e.g., Chrome 126)

Note your OS (Windows 11, Android 14, etc.)

Contact support via Discord or email with the details above

Tip: Always test with the Preview / Test Sound button first. If the test button works but live triggers don't, the issue is likely your trigger condition (e.g., wrong gift name, minimum coins too high), not audio.
